Summary: Megan Holland from ADN reported the article “Local Schools More Populous Than Expected.” There are more people moving into Anchorage, mostly from the bush. They underestimated how many students they would have this year, so they ended up with more students than expected. The student population has gone up to 48,320 and they are expecting more because the army needs more men in some base, so that means more students. The school district in Anchorage is getting over a million more dollars to hire more teachers and more staff. The interesting detail that surprised me was the little time it took for everyone who wanted to move to Anchorage to actually do it.
What do you know about the topic? What do you think of it? Do you agree with the author? What is your opinion? Did you make any connections with the article? Do you know students and/or families that have moved into Anchorage?
A very huge amount of villagers are going city. There are more and more people from the Bush that are moving out. My family and I moved away for one year but we didn’t like it so we came back. I’m wondering what those villagers thought on the first day of school in Anchorage. I can remember my first day in a huge school but that was at Fairbanks, which is smaller. That day was overwhelming. All the classrooms and the swarm of students, and that NASTY food? That was just too much. Yes I agree with the author. I know a couple families that moved to Anchorage. Not that much though.
